Same way the Italians master pasta and pizza, us, the Greeks, master pies!
In Greece one will find all kinds of pies, made either of puff pastry or the traditional “fyllo” dough, filled with fresh fragrant herbs, such as leek, or zucchini, or spinach or wild herbs, or cheese, or minced meat, or chicken, or even fish!
Many pies bear the proud name of their area of origin so, once in Greece, one can taste the “Myconos onion pie”, the “Sifnos honey pie”, the “Cephallonian meat pie”, the “twisted Skopelos pie”, the Thessaloniki sweet “bougatsa” etc.
Undoubtedly, the “king” of all pies is the Spanakopita! A pie known and loved by all the Greeks and not only! President Obama himself, praized spanakopita during his speech while visiting Athens back in 2016!
Athens Walking Tours has, of course, included Spanakopita in the recipes prepared during the Athens Cooking Lesson and Dinner tour but, also, in the food tasting during Athens Food tour
Today, we are presenting you with an easy to make and fun recipe of home-made Spanakopita which you can prepare for your loved ones. So, roll-up your sleeves and enjoy!
