    About Ancient Agora




    Where is the Ancient Agora ?

    It is in the North and at the foot of the Acropolis Hill.

    Where is the Entrance to the Ancient Agora?

    There are two entrances to the Agora site: the main one is on Adrianou road in the South and the side one in the North; you find it coming down from the Acropolis from the North.

    What do I see in the Agora?

    The excavations site, the Hephaestus Temple and the Attalos Museum.

    What are the Opening Hours?

    The oppening hours of the Ancient Agora are the same as those of the Acropolis.

    Summer opening hours from 8:00 am to 20:00 pm (during September the opening hours are from 08:00-19:00)

    Winter opening hours from 8:00 am to 15:00 pm (until April 30).

    How Much is the Admission Fee for Ancient Agora & Attalos Museum?

    If you have already purchased an Acropolis ticket then you may also use it to visit the Agora and the Attalos Museum. This is a combined ticket, which, apart from the Acropolis, also includes entrance to 6 more Archaeological sites: Temple of Zeus, Ancient Agora, Roman Agora, Hadrian's Library, Kerameikos Cemetery and Lyceum of Aristotle.

    If you haven't purchased the combined ticket, then, the admission is:

    From April 01 to October 31, 2016:
  • Free for children up to 18 years old and students from EU countries (with current student ID)
  • 50% Discount for students outside the EU (with current student ID)
  • € 8 for the adults

  • Is There A Combined Ticket For All Sites?

    The combined tickets, are also available at the cost of € 30, are valid for 5 days and include entrance to the Acropolis and 6 more Archaeological sites: Temple of Zeus, Ancient Agora, Roman Agora, Hadrian's Library, Kerameikos and Lyceum of Aristotle.

    The Acropolis, the Ancient Agora, the Zeus Temple and the Dionysus Theater are closed on:

    • Shrove Monday (open 08:00 - 15:00)
    • 25 March - Greek Independence Day
    • Good Friday: Acropolis - closed until 12:00 p.m.

    Is it steep and is there climbing involved?

    No it is not steep at all, on the contrary, it is very flat and a wide open space. As always, it is wise to wear a pair of comfortable walking shoes.

    Do I need a Guide to see the Ancient Agora?

    Yes, especially for the Attalos Museum. A good guide book would also be very helpful.
